I was at the Elliot Lake Mall and observed much of the events taking place
before and after the demolition. I heard the media asking questions and viewed
many of the news conferences.
I even witnessed the premier addressing the
crowd in the aftermath of the aborted rescue operations.
We went from
hearing rumors of tapping noises and signs of life giving everyone hope , to the
cancelation of rescue operations as the walls were separating from the main
building and could collapse at anytime. There was a lull and the operations
restarted as a demolition operation.
Huge equipment was brought in and the
main entrance and crime scene was obliterated.
The escalator which had been
closed because of water damage was taken out and much of the roof torn apart .
The lawyers will have a hayday wth all of this as now the evidence is now a pile
of rubble. The rush to demolish and the refusal to let a rescue crew in to
assist and investigate
leads me to conclude the OPP have a complicated crime
scene to disect.
As the premier of Ontario says it is not a time to point
fingers of guilt and he may be right.... Personally I think it is too
late...
The victims were laid to rest as the final Memorial for Lucy Alwin
was held yesterday.
If there were only two fatalities it is a miracle and
regardless it is still two too many.
This unfortunate tragic event will
linger on for a long time in our minds, in our hearts and in the courts. The only
closure we will likely have is "That Of THE MALL ITSELF ! "
